Mobile vs Fixed Tiny Houses

Tiny living movement has been at the frontier of off-the-grid living, exploring alternative living spaces and lifestyles. The movement has caught on in the US with more and more people deciding to downscale their living spaces and try to live a different life. Most of the tiny houses that people build or decide to buy can be sorted into two categories:

  • Mobile (house-on-wheels, RV, modified campers etc.)
  • Fixed (houses that have a fixed foundation, regardless of the type of materials used to construct them).

So what are some of the advantages and disadvantages of each tiny house category?

Legality

When it comes to legality, tiny houses are still swimming in the rough waters, since most of the areas lack or don’t have defined regulations and zoning requirements when it comes to tiny houses. This makes living in a tiny house a challenge, since you have to be careful when planning where to locate your tiny houses for sale in florida.

When it comes to mobile tiny houses, they are in general not considered to be permanent residential building (or buildings at all), therefore not needing a permit from the authorities. The downside of them is that they are often not intended for permanent residence and can be illegal in some area, as a primary dwelling space.

Fixed tiny houses are faced with strict zoning restrictions and building codes all across the US. It is downright impossible to build such a living residence in most of the areas. Still the trend is slowly reversing as more and more areas are passing legislation making it possible to build tiny living residences.

Mobility

Of course, mobile tiny houses are at an advantage here as they are intended to be moved and follow their owners wherever they go. It is very important to bear in mind that moving costs might not be cheap and often require special permits to get them on the road.

All is not lost for fixed tiny home owners. The fact that the house was planted or built on a fixed foundation is not a deal-breaker. It is possible to construct houses in such a way that they can be moved from one fixed foundation to another, making mobility possible. The cost might be a bit higher, but it is still a possibility.

Customization

Due to space restrictions, tiny homes require quite a bit of customization in order to maintain living comfort and cover all the basic needs. In this area, fixed tiny homes excel. Most of the mobile tiny homes are limited due to the floor-plan, wheelbase requirements for mobile dwellings. This makes them hard to customize.

On the other hand, fixed tiny homes can be built in a variety of shapes and different floor-plans. They can be multi storied, or they can be built using salvaged or recycled materials. Also the aesthetics of fixed tiny homes tends to be better, making them more popular among potential tiny house owners.

Both tiny home categories have their advantages but it is of key importance to know what will be the intended use of the tiny house when making that decision. Is it going to be your primary residence, a spare guest space or something to explore the US landscapes? Tiny house can fit all those roles.…

Innerspring Versus Memory Foam Mattresses; How Do Innerspring Mattresses Compare To Memory Foam Mattresses?

On a comparison chart showing the features of innerspring versus memory foam mattresses, the only feature that gets ticked on both is the coolness while sleeping.box.  In all the other boxes it is just the memory foam boxes that get ticked.

Mattress Support Comparison:

Spring Mattresses:  At first you may get the feeling of comfort when lying down, but it does not offer sufficient support.  Spring mattresses push back against your body, and because of the areas carrying more weight on your body, it cannot give equal support over the whole of the body.  This cause pressure points which leads to poor blood circulation and aches and pains.

Memory Foam Mattresses:  Memory foam mattresses distribute your body weight evenly throughout.  Memory foam takes on the contours of the body and does not push back.  Pressure points are reduced to as much as 80%.  Memory foam mattresses have a unique combination of support and reduced pressure point relieve that promote pain relief and the prevention of pain.

Pros and Cons of Spring Mattress versus Memory Foam Mattress:

Spring Mattress:

Pros:

  1. Low cost – these mattresses do not cost much to manufacture.
  2. Durability – spring mattresses can last 7 – 10 years

Cons:

  1. Support –within the first two years the mattress usually start sagging and lose about 16% of its support in the first year.
  2. Poor Back Support – innersprings do not offer the support your back needs and do not promote spinal alignment.

Memory Foam Mattress:

Pros:

  1. Pressure Distribution – memory foam mattresses can relieve pressure better than other types of mattresses.
  2. No Motion Transfer – means that when you move, the whole bed does not move, waking up your partner or disturbing their sleep.

Cons:

  1. The Price – can become expensive depending on the quality of the materials used.
  2. Feeling like sinking in – because a memory foam mattress will adjust to your body contours, you might get the sensations that you are sinking into the mattress or getting stuck.

Both these mattresses have their pros and cons.  Spring mattresses will be able to handle the wear and tear because the springs act as a shock absorber.  Memory foam mattresses will distribute your weight evenly, but if you like a firm mattress, you won’t find it in memory foam.

What Is This Memory Foam Technology? Why Would You Use Memory Foam Technology In Mattresses? Why Is It Great For Mattresses?

Memory Foam is made of polyurethane with added chemicals that increase its density and viscosity.  It is also known as “viscoelastic” polyurethane foam.  The higher-density of memory foam softens when coming in contact with body heat.  This allows the foam to mould to the contours of a warm body.

In 1966 a NASA contract requested the development of memory foam to improve the safety of their aircraft cushions.  It was initially called “slow spring back foam” because of its feature to spring back to the original shape.  In the early 1980s, the Memory foam was introduced to the public.  At first, it was mostly used in medical settings.

Memory foam was initially too expensive for everyday use.  It became cheaper and is now used in mattresses, pillows, blankets and shoes.

What are the benefits of using Memory foam in Mattresses?

  1. Relieving of Pressure Points: Memory foam mattresses are used to cushion, comfort and protect persons in intensive care units and to help prevent pressure sores.  Basically, the foam conforms to the body’s contours and does not push back while still supporting the body.
  2. Back and Spine Support: Each part of a person’s body, lying on a memory foam mattress, will be evenly and individually supported by spreading the weight across the whole of the mattress’ surface.  It will support the lower back while allowing the spine to stay in a comfortable, neutral position.
  3. Prevention and Relieving of pain: The unique combination of support and pressure point relief that is found in a memory foam mattress has the possibilities of preventing pain as well as relieving current pain.

Memory Foam mattresses are now a favourite of people with painful conditions, for instance, arthritis, fibromyalgia, etc.  It supports, contours to the body, promote correct alignment and do not place added pressure on sensitive areas of the body.  It offers optimal comfort and better sleep because of all its benefits.…
